Born and raised in Los Angeles, California, James was introduced to a wide variety of fashion, arts, and cultures by her mother. Through her family's visits to museums, theaters, and cultural events, James developed a deep appreciation for artistic expression. Although she felt a strong connection to the art world, she went on to study Psychology and Pan African Studies at California State University, Northridge.
James began styling personal clients in 2006, but saw her career take off after moving to New York City in 2008 and studying fashion styling and image consulting at the Fashion Institute of Technology. She worked as a fashion editorial assistant for Women’s Wear Daily, where she developed a greater understanding of the industry. In addition, James has spent a number of seasons working for various designers during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week and at the showrooms of luxury brands like Marchesa, Saint Laurent, and Valentino. In July 2012, James was recruited to work for J.Crew's still life and soft goods department.
Currently, James continues her work as a fashion stylist and contributes to Issue Magazine as the New York Market Editor. Additionally, she uses her extensive fashion experience to bring editorial style into her personal clients’ everyday lives in an approachable and enjoyable way. When she isn't immersed in the fashion world, she spends her time exploring the New York art scene, cooking with loved ones, and flailing her way through beginner's ballet classes.
